Tom Lang signs on at Raith Rovers

Monday February 8th 2021

The club have agreed a Pre – Contract Agreement with 23 year old central defender Tom Lang, who has played for SPFL League 1 side Clyde FC for the last two and a half seasons.

Tom jumped at the chance to make a return to full – time football in Kirkcaldy next season, after he and his representatives started talking to Rovers management duo John McGlynn and Paul Smith.

The Rovers management team had taken note of Tom’s capabilities when Rovers played Clyde last season, liked what Tom can bring to the team and are delighted to have secured the services of a player who will fit in with the style of football the Rovers play, along with his desire to work hard and improve as a player.

Born in the village of Wootton Wawen in the English Midlands, Tom started his football journey in the youth academies of Birmingham City and then Glasgow Rangers.

As a professional he has played for Dumbarton, Stranraer & Dunfermline Athletic over the last 5 seasons in the Championship, League 1 and League 2 (winning promotion via the playoffs to League 1 with The Bully Wee in 2018-19) and was at Stark’s Park last week to sign a contract that starts in June this year through to June 2023.

The Rovers management team of John McGlynn & Paul Smith spoke to raithrovers.net about their new recruit, and said “Although we are very much concentrating on the job in hand this season we are also looking to next season.

On the back of Ross Matthews agreeing a three year deal we follow that up with the pre-contract agreement with Tom Lang – Tom’s a player we have had our eye on for the last couple of years, ever since we both returned to the club. We’ve followed his career and feel he is now at a perfect age, having gained great experience working under Danny Lennon at Clyde, and ready to establish himself in our team.

Tom is a 6’ 2″ central defender who, having come through the academies at Birmingham and Rangers, can pass the ball out of defence but having gained experience in the lower leagues in Scotland he can defend as well.

We look forward to working with Tom when we start pre-season training in June this year”.

Rovers take on Aberdeen in an 'A' Division game at Stark's Park. Rovers lose the game 2-1 with Joe McLaughlin missing an 88th minute penalty for the home side which would have secured a valuable point to stave off relegation.
