Match Preview

Tuesday evening’s 3-1 loss to Airdrie means that Raith Rovers require snookers to win the Championship title, but with Partick Thistle the visitors this Saturday, they know a point will be enough to secure second place in the league, and secure a highest league finish since the 2010/11 campaign.

Kris Doolan’s side come to Stark’s Park in decent form, with just one defeat in seven matches, although that solitary loss came against Rovers last month.

The Jags have a six point cushion over fifth placed Dunfermline, and just two over fourth placed Airdrie, so still have some work to do to secure their place in the end of season playoffs, and with Airdrie, Ayr and Dundee United coming up after this weekend, they could face a nail biting finale to the campaign.

Rovers have a good record in this fixture, and especially at Stark’s Park, where the Maryhill side haven’t recorded a win since March 2011, with Raith chalking up a sequence of nine games unbeaten since then.

They’ve also taken seven points out of a possible nine this term, with some memorable games in the three so far.

Rovers came back from a two goal deficit in the first league game in August, when goals in the last seven minutes from Dylan Easton and Kieran Mitchell securing a late point.

They came back again at Stark’s Park in December too, when they found themselves trailing 3-2 with 10 minutes left, despite Daniel O’Reilly and Dylan Easton earlier giving Rovers a 2-1 lead. However, goals from Callum Smith and Sam Stanton earned Rovers a thrilling 4-3 win.

There were far fewer goals at the last meeting in March, when a solitary effort from Euan Murray earned Rovers a 1-0 win at Firhill.

Saturday’s match referee will be David Munro.

Head-To-Head Record:
