Nisbet and Henderson share inaugural Tartan Boot award

Raith Rovers’ Kevin Nisbet and Edinburgh City’s Blair Henderson are celebrating after winning the inaugural SPFL Tartan Boot award for their goal scoring achievements in the 2018/19 season.

The special edition Tartan Boot award, created in partnership with SPFL Official Match Ball supplier Mitre, was introduced this season to recognise the top goal scorer across all four SPFL divisions.

Over the course of nine months and 36 league games, there was nothing to separate the two strikers, who both bagged 30 league goals for their respective clubs across the season.

Nisbet, who started his career at Partick Thistle, signed for the Kirkcaldy men last summer and played an instrumental part in their Ladbrokes League 1 campaign, helping The Rovers secure a Championship play-off spot with a third-placed finish.

After a blistering start to the season, 24 year-old Henderson had already surpassed his goal tally of 16 from last season by November and recorded his best season to date for The Citizens this year after signing from fellow Ladbrokes League 2 outfit Annan Athletic.

Both players played their part in what was a memorable season in terms of goals scored in the SPFL this term, with a total of 2,038 goals recorded.

Raith Rovers’ Kevin Nisbet said: “It’s an incredible honour to be recognised by the SPFL for my goal scoring achievements this season and to share the very first Tartan Boot award with Blair.

Getting regular game time at Stark’s Park has been central to my development as a striker this season, and I’m glad I’ve been able to repay the faith shown in me by the management.

I’d also like to thank my teammates, who have contributed massively to create the opportunities for me to score from.”

Neil Doncaster, SPFL chief executive, said: “Congratulations to both Kevin and Blair for both winning the inaugural Tartan Boot award. We have been treated to plenty of goals throughout the SPFL this season yet again demonstrating the high standard of exciting football being played across the leagues.”

Edinburgh City’s Blair Henderson said: “I’m delighted on a personal note to mark my best goalscoring season to date with this award and reward the fans for all their support this season.

“Both Kevin and I have been neck-and-neck for most of the season so it’s nice that we are both being recognised for our achievements this season”

Simon Rowe, Head of Sports Marketing for Mitre said: “These awards offer us an opportunity to celebrate another fantastic season in partnership with the SPFL and recognise some of the players who’ve provided great entertainment with the Mitre Delta. Congratulations to this season’s winners!”

Inside Forward Alexander McCulloch signs from Coventry City but only manages 8 first team appearances in two seasons.
