Rovers career stats up to season 2022-23: Played 67 (62 starts). Goals 7.

Sam signed for the Rovers in December 2021 on a 2 and a half year deal having most recently played for Dundalk in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

A midfielder, Sam broke through at Hibernian; progressing through the youth academy system and making his debut for the Easter Rd side aged 17 v Rangers in January 2012.
After over 50 appearances for the Hibees, scoring 3 goals (and loan spells at Cowdenbeath, Livingston, Dumbarton and Dundee United), Sam then signed for Dundee United permanently in January 2018.

After over 50 appearance (and 5 goals) for The Terrors, Sam moved to the United States to sign for Phoenix Rising FC in January 2020. After a successful season winning the Western Conference and reaching the USL Championship Final (which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic), Stanton and the club mutually agreed to part ways in December.

In December 2020 Sam signed for Dundalk, until making the switch back to Scotland and Stark’s Park.
On December 20th 2023, it was announced that Sam had extended his Raith Rovers contract through to the end of season 2025-26.
