Baird Says ‘Thank You’ To Raith With Unique Gesture
It was entirely typical that John Baird should score on his return to Stark’s Park in Queen of the South colours last Friday, however his love for Raith Rovers remains as strong as ever.
The striker, who will return to Kirkcaldy as part of the Ramsden’s Cup squad who will appear at the Hall of Fame on Monday 10th November, presented the club with a unique framed hand-designed collage of the Cup-Winning line up before the match on Friday.
John explained, “There aren’t many clubs that welcome back someone who had previously left, and especially as whole heartedly as Raith Rovers did. From Turnbull Hutton, through to Grant Murray and the boys, and all the fans, everyone welcomed me back with open arms and I just wanted to show my appreciation of everything Raith Rovers have done for me in my two spells at Kirkcaldy.
“The club have given me special memories and will always have a special place in my heart. It was strange being in the away dressing room on Friday and I can’t thank the Raith fans enough for the applause they gave me.”
Ally Gourlay, speaking on behalf of the club said, “It was a wonderful gesture from John to present the club with a unique gift such as this. It also shows the wider Raith support just how much this club means to him and we wish him well in his career. He will always be welcome at Stark’s Park and will always be assured of a friendly warm reception.”
