Kirkcaldy Foodbank has teamed up with Raith Rovers and the recently formed Raith Rovers Community Foundation to create a “one-day” foodbank collection point at Stark’s Park before our next game, against Livingston, this Saturday. Volunteers from the Foodbank and the Raith Rovers Community Foundation will staff the collection point jointly.

Kirkcaldy Foodbank is run and supported by volunteers and has been operating in the town since December of last year. In that time, it has provided emergency food parcels to over 4,000 adults and children. At the Raith Rovers Community Foundation, although not active on community projects yet, the Foundation’s trustees have been working hard behind the scenes to establish the foundation as an incorporated charity and to secure funding to employ a community development worker. It is hoped that the group will be able to advertise to fill this post in the New Year. Both groups see the Foodbank collection as a chance to work together to benefit local people who are experiencing difficult times and to give Raith Rovers Football Club and its supporters a chance to contribute collectively to the local community.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Foodbank Chairperson and a committed Rovers supporter said, “At Kirkcaldy Foodbank, we work to help local people and families in crisis by providing emergency food parcels to people in need. We believe that this initiative allows the wider Raith Rovers family a chance to support our work and to give some help to those who are experiencing very difficult times at this special time of year.”

The Foodbank welcome donations of any non-perishable foodstuffs, which has NOT passed its “best before” date, and specifically it would welcome donations of the following items at this time:

Canned Vegetables, Canned Meat, Tinned Fruit,
Rice, Pasta, Breakfast Cereal,
Tea and Coffee, Long Life Fruit Juice, UHT Milk

The collection point will be at the turnstiles at the Val McDermid Stand (Car Park end) and will be open from 1pm to 3pm. So please bring a donation to the game and give something to folk in need as we head towards Christmas.

(N.B Visiting supporters will be accommodated in the The KeyTech (Railway) Stand for this fixture.)
