This week sees the launch of a new book that is sure to bring back happy memories for many Raith Rovers supporters. “We Led in Munich” tells the story of our 1995 UEFA Cup run which ended in Jimmy Nicholl’s side famously leading Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Olympic Stadium.
Raith Rovers supporter Steven Lawther, who has previously written a book on our 1994 Coca Cola Cup triumph, has interviewed managers, players, and supporters to capture the joy of the European campaign and the away trips to the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Germany.
Steven commented. “It was a great time to be a Raith Rovers supporter and all the away trips were incredibly special. I wanted to tell the story from the perspective of those who were there. It was a privilege to talk to Jimmy Nicholl and the players who made it happen and also share the memories of fans who took the ferries, flights, and buses to watch the team.”
The book, which includes a foreword from former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, covers that unforgettable night in Munich as well as all the other five games of the campaign and brings the story up to date looking at where the players and club went afterwards, including a chapter on our promotion push in the 2023/24 season.
It is sure to be a great read for all Rovers’ supporters.
We Led in Munich will soon be available in the club shop with all proceeds from the copies sold going directly to Raith Rovers.
Steven will also be in conversation with Danny Lennon in “An evening of Raith Rovers” at Waterstones Kirkcaldy on Thursday 16 October. There will be a chance to have your book signed and hear direct from the player who scored THAT goal in Munich! Tickets are free and are available direct from Waterstones Kirkcaldy.
