With just over a week to go until the Raith Rovers Former Players’ Association/Rovers Down South Tribute Night to the promotion winning team of 2008/9 on Friday 22 September, things are looking positive for a great night of football entertainment and memories of a goalie diving in the streets of Raith!

“We’ve got stalwarts like Marvin Andrews, Davie McGurn, Robert Sloan, Graeme Weir, and of course the management team of John McGlynn and Paul Smith coming along to tell their stories and mix with the supporters.  10 promotion winners confirmed so far, and more expected soon. It’s pure coincidence, but this team reminds us of the character and steel that’s required for promotion, which after Saturday’s performance against Ayr, Barry Smith’s team are demonstrating too ” John Greer stated this week.

“David Douglas has kindly co-sponsored the event and has taken a table. Mind you, MacGregor’s Solicitors were first, rapidly followed by the Neeburs of Geordie Munro, the 200 Club, and the Board. Plus we’ve had great support from our regulars like John Sutherland, Douglas Roberts, Kenny Smith, and Ali More. We’re at 70, and rising,” said Bill Gilby of Rovers Down South.

“Plus supporters down south who can’t come are covering the cost of looking after the players, so many thanks to John Butler, Gordon Fernie, Graham Gilby and David Greig – that’s real Raith Rovers values. Great support too from the Fife Print Centre, Strathearn Hotel, and Fife Free Press – all part of the Rovers community, ” added Bill.
