After a brief hiatus last weekend, Raith Rovers are back in action this Saturday, as they welcome Ayr United to Stark’s Park.
Like Raith, the Honest Men have taken four points from a possible six, leaving both teams two points behind very early pace setters Partick Thistle.
After an opening day win at home to Arbroath, Gary Naysmith’s side travelled to East End Park and came away with a point after a one all draw.
While the Rovers sat out the League Cup last 16 stage, United were in action against local rivals Kilmarnock in a massive Ayrshire derby at Rugby Park, and despite a spirited showing, the Premiership side just managed to sneak through following a dramatic and late winner in a five goal thriller.
With Partick Thistle in action against Inverness on the Friday evening, there is a chance that one of these sides could go top with a win in this one, and recent results do suggest that one of the sides will take all three points, with the last draw coming 12 games ago, a quite ridiculous four each encounter back in December 2023.
While the games tend to produce a victor, they’re certainly not predictable, with both teams winning five of the last 10 meetings.
The last encounter between the teams was back in March, when a brace from Iness Cameron and a goal from Richard Chin earned Rovers a resounding 3-0 win.
Saturday’s match referee will be Lloyd Wilson.
