Livingston vs Raith Rovers
Line Up
Report
Raith Rovers earned a valuable point on the road on Wednesday after playing out a goalless draw against Livingston.
In a stop-start match that consisted of countless set-pieces and throw-ins, the points were split after neither side managed to find the net.
Barry Robson made two changes to his side as he altered his defensive line. After having started the last seven consecutive matches, Josh Mullin and Liam Dick were rotated for the centre-half duo of Callum Fordyce and Euan Murray.
Raith got the match underway and were met with an early injury to their skipper. Scott Brown went down in the tenth minute and could not continue, which led to Josh Mullin coming on after a positional re-shuffle.
Both sides had a handful of half-chances in the first half, but some tame efforts, as well as some more wild but off-target attempts, didn’t trouble either keeper. The halftime interval signalled the end of a very uneventful half of football.
The teams emerged unchanged for the second half and Livingston commenced the remaining 45 minutes of football.
Raith came close in the 53rd minute after Gullan’s ball into the box strayed goalwards. Jerome Prior punched the ball over his bar however, and Raith couldn’t capitalise from the following corner.
The best chance of the match for The Rovers came right on the hour mark after Pollock was put clean through on goal. The 20-year-old attacker did well to control the bouncing through ball, but Prior rushed out of his net to deny the one-on-one effort as he deflected the shot out for a corner. Gullan managed to hit the post directly from the resultant corner, but the ball pinged harmlessly out of the Livingston box as a result.
Livingston thought they might have netted a winner in the 83rdminute after McGowan poked in from close range, but the offside flag invalidated the host’s effort.
Livi had a strong finish to the match but Josh Rae and his defence held strong. After six minutes of injury time, the referee called an end to the goalless affair.
Raith now have a free week to look forward to, but they will be preparing for the fourth and final Fife derby of the league season. 8th placed Dunfermline come to Starks Park on the following Friday – a fixture which could prove pivotal in the relegation end of the Championship table.
