Livingston vs Raith Rovers
Line Up
Report
Raith Rovers’ second encounter with Livingston this season ended in a sickeningly identical fashion on Saturday, with another last-minute winner for Livingston giving them all the points through a 2-1 scoreline.
Collins made two changes from the week priors draw with Queen’s Park, with Liam Dick swapping for Lewis Stevenson at left-back. Sam Stanton also made his first start in 77 days having been injured since Raith’s second game of the season.
Livingston got the game underway, and Raith quickly grew into the match. A skilful run by Jack Hamilton gave the Rovers a chance to work something in the opposition box early on, but Livi cleared. A free kick not long after saw Callum Fordyce’s header from close range impressively saved, but the score wouldn’t remain level for too much longer.
Raith continued to threaten, and eventually got their reward in the 20th minute. Some sustained play down the left allowed Scott Brown to fizz a ball into the feet of Stanton, who was floating around the edge of the area. A deft touch round his man gave him the time he needed to pick out Hamilton, who blasted the ball into the net from 6 yards out. Hamilton’s fourth goal of the season gave Raith the lead early on.
Raith survived a late scare in the first half after a miss-communicated back-pass rolled past the empty rover’s net by mere inches. With the whistle blowing shortly after, Raith went into the break deservedly a goal up.
The second half didn’t get off to an exactly ideal start for Raith, with Liam Dick being shown two yellow cards in the space of five minutes. With over 35 minutes still to play, Raith would have to protect their one-goal lead with ten men.
Jamieson made way for Stevenson as Raith looked to keep their left-back position filled, and held strong for 20 minutes or so. Eventually however, Livi made the extra man count.
A ball to the back post found the head of Livingston’s David Wilson, who’s effort landed in the back of the Raith net. With 15 minutes to go, the game was back level.
With the clock showing 90 minutes played, Livingston were also reduced to ten-men after their own goal scorer, David Wilson, was shown a straight red on the halfway line after colliding with substitute and Raith debutant, Korede David.
Both sides went for it in injury time, but it was Livingston who ran away with a late, late winner.
An acrobatic save from Dabrowski gave the hosts a corner in the 95th minute. The set-piece was subsequently whipped into the crowded Raith box, and was met by the head of Livi’s Michael Nottingham, who leaped up from the penalty spot before thundering his effort into the bottom right corner of the Raith goal. For the second time of the season, Livingston had won it at the death against Raith.
With two games in the space of four days coming up for Raith, they will be keen to brush off another late loss as they look to the many positives produced during the match. Ayr and Airdrie at Starks Park are up next, with Raith currently 8th in the league.
