Falkirk vs Raith Rovers
Line Up
Report
Raith Rovers trip through to Falkirk ended with defeat on Saturday, after losing 3-0 to the current league leaders.
Neill Collins made only one change to the team that started against Linlithgow Rose in the Scottish cup a week earlier, with Jack Hamilton taking the place of Korede David.
Raith got the match underway, but it would be the home team that would go on to score the first goal of the afternoon.
After working the ball wide, Falkirk played the ball back into the Raith box and across the face of goal. The Rovers’ defence couldn’t stop the ball from finding Falkirk’s Aflredo Agyeman, who tapped the ball into the net from the six-yard line. With just 5 minutes on the clock, Raith found themselves a goal behind.
Raith suffered some unfortune later on in the half with a combination of injuries striking the team. Kai Montagu replaced Scott Brown, and Lewis Stevenson came on for Fankaty Dabo just three minutes later.
Falkirk threatened with a second before half time, but a few interventions from Kevin Dabrowski kept Raith to a one-goal deficit going into the break.
Falkirk got the second half underway, and added to their earlier goal around 10 minutes later. After picking the ball up in the midfield, Agyeman drove towards the Raith goal before unleashing an effort from around 25 yards out. The striker’s low but hard attempt belted into the bottom right corner of Raith’s goal, putting the home side 2 goals up with over half an hour still to be played.
A bit of misfortune led to the final goal of the afternoon, after a short corner routine from Falkirk led to a headed effort taking a heavy deflection. With Dabrowski diving for the initial shot, Raith could only watch as the ball spun into the opposite corner of the goal. Having directed the header on target, Falkirk’s Keelan Adams was named as the scorer.
Raith came close to getting one back after Montagu’s shot from distance was tipped past the post late on in the match. A series of corners followed, but the final whistle a few minutes later signalled the end of the match.
Today’s result leaves Raith with 15 points in the league, and 8th on goal difference. With Morton, Hamilton, and Dunfermline also sitting on an identical points tally, next week’s Fife Darby at Starks Park means it is all to play for.
