Match Preview

Raith Rovers will be looking to sustain their bright start to the Premier Sports Cup this Tuesday evening, when they host Stranraer at Stark’s Park.

Rovers kicked their tournament off with a comfortable 3-0 away win against Stirling Albion at the weekend, with Aidan Connolly providing all three goals in front of a large travelling support at Forthbank.
Stranraer on the other hand lost their opening fixture, although they did make life difficult for their Premiership opponents Ross County at Stair Park.
A brace from Jordan White in the opening half hour of the game had suggested that the Staggies would enjoy a straightforward afternoon, however, Deryn Lang halved the arrears with nine minutes remaining, only for Eamonn Brophy to ensure all three points would be heading north with a late third for Don Cowie’s side.
Former Raith Rovers assistant manager, Scott Agnew is in charge of Tuesday’s visitors, and he’ll be looking to ensure there’s no repeat of last season’s flirtation with relegation to the Lowland League.
Stranraer finished bottom of League Two, but were involved in one of the most incident packed games of the season, when they triumphed over big spending Lowland League side East Kilbride 5-3 on aggregate.
While Rovers will start as hot favourites for this match, they don’t have the best of recent records against Stranraer, with just one win from the last five meetings.
That victory came in a League One clash in November 2019, when a brace from Jamie Gullan and a goal from John Baird sealed a 3-1 win, in a campaign that ended with Raith beating Falkirk to the third tier title.
It was a different story the last time the sides met in this competition however, with Stranraer knocking Rovers out in the first round back in 2004 thanks to a 2-1 scoreline, with Paquito grabbing Rovers goal.
Head-to-Head Record:
Raith Rovers wins: 38
Stranraer wins: 14
Draws: 16
