Scottish Cup R2

Match Preview:

Raith Rovers Scottish Cup campaign begins on Tuesday, as they travel to take on Stirling Albion at Forthbank.

Kevin Rutkeiwicz’s team has made an impressive start to their League Two campaign, sitting fourth in the table, level on points with the two sides directly above them, Elgin City and Stranraer, and five points behind leaders Queen’s Park.

The Binos are unbeaten in five matches, and were on course to make that six at the weekend, when their match at Ochilview was abandoned while they led one nil due to a frosty pitch.

Albion reached this stage of the competition thanks to a 3-0 win at Lowland League side Berwick Rangers in the last round, thanks to goals from Kurtis Roberts, Declan Byrne and top goal scorer, Andy Ryan.

These two sides haven’t met since 2014, and that also was in the Scottish Cup, when goals from Barrie Mackay and Grant Anderson sealed a 2-0 win for Raith.

That win set up a fifth round tie with Rangers, who Rovers defeated 2-1 at Ibrox, before losing to eventual winners Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the quarter finals.

Rovers have the upper hand in the most recent meetings between the two, with six wins and a draw from the last 10 match ups.

Saturday’s match referee will be Steven McLean.
