Match Preview:

Raith Rovers head to Paisley this weekend, looking for a similar result to their 2-1 win on their last visit.

That September fixture saw Raith take a first half lead through James Craigen, before Lawrence Shankland equalised just before the interval. However, a close range finish from Grant Anderson after a flick on from Jon Daly saw Rovers bring back all three points.

There was late drama too the last time the teams came together in November. It was Mark Stewart who fired Raith in front at Stark’s Park, but a wonderful free-kick from Steve Mallan in the last minute, left the match all-square.

Since that fixture, the Buddies have a new management team in place, with Alex Rae taking over from Ian Murray, who resigned in the wake of a defeat to Dumbarton in December. Rae’s four games in charge have seen his charges win twice, and lose twice, and the Paisley outfit will be looking for their first home league win of the season this Saturday, an outcome which would see St. Mirren move just six points behind Rovers.

If Raith can avoid defeat on Saturday, then the sequence of three games without loss to St. Mirren, would make it their best run of results against the club since the 2001/02 season. Unfortunately, despite their fine record against the Buddies that term, Raith would finish bottom of the First Division, while St. Mirren finished eigth.

St. Mirren just have the edge in the most recent head-to-head record, with four wins from the last ten meetings, compared to Rovers three.

Saturday’s Match referee will be Barry Cook
