Match Preview

After three consecutive games on the road, Raith Rovers return to Stark’s Park this Friday, as they welcome league leaders St Johnstone to Kirkcaldy.

For the Perth Saints, this will be their second successive Friday evening game after defeating Airdrie 1-0 last weekend in the live BBC match.

It’s been a busy week for Simo Valakari’s side though, as sandwiched in-between their two Friday evenings under the lights was their KMD Evolution Trophy quarter final tie against Ayr United on Tuesday evening.

After initially looking all but out at 3-1 down with 89 minutes on the clock, St Johnstone managed to draw level with two goals in the final few moments, only to lose out on penalties as Ayr stumbled over the finishing line.

With St Johnstone looking to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking, this game gives them the opportunity to move eight points clear of Partick Thistle at the top of the table, albeit having played two games more with Thistle in action against someone on Saturday.

This will be the fourth time the sides have met this season, with Rovers yet to come out on top.

They lost 3-1 at McDiarmid Park in the League Cup in July, and went down by two goals to nil in the first league meeting at Stark’s Park in September.

They did get a point the last time the sides met in December however, with a fine defensive performance securing a 0-0 draw.

A win in this fixture has proven to be elusive for Rovers, with their last victory over St Johnstone coming 11 games and 22 years ago in the 2004/05 season, when a John Martin goal earned Rovers their first league win of the season at the 14th time of asking

Friday evening’s match referee will be Ross Hardie.

Head-to-Head Record:

Raith Rovers wins: 22

St Johnstone wins: 47

Draws: 31
