Match Preview
It’s a top of the table clash at Stark’s Park this weekend, as second placed Raith Rovers welcome table toppers St Johnstone.
The two teams are only separated in the table by goal difference, with Arbroath also on the same amount of points in third, albeit the Saints have played one game fewer than both Raith and the Lichties.
Simo Valakari’s side have made an excellent start to their campaign, topping their League Cup section which also featured Rovers and winning their first three league games of the season.
The only points they’ve dropped was in their last match a fortnight ago, a 1-1 home draw with Morton, while their only loss was their last 16 League Cup encounter with Motherwell, with the Perth side losing 1-0 after extra time.
If Rovers can get the win in this one, depending on Arbroath’s result against Dunfermline, they could top the Championship table for the first time since December 2023, however to do this, they’ll need to break a trend of poor results against their opponents, which stretches back over eight games and 21 years.
St Johnstone’s last visit to Kirkcaldy on league business was back in March 2005 in a game which confirmed Rovers relegation to the third tier, despite Pat Clarke giving the home side the lead following a Scott Crabbe corner.
However, goals from Steven Anderson and Kieran McAnespie condemned Rovers to the Second Division.
Anderson’s goal made up for his efforts on his first visit to Stark’s Park that campaign in March 2004, with the young defender receiving his marching orders as Raith won their first in 12 attempts, with John Martin’s goal sealing a 1-0 win.
Saturday’s match referee will be Chris Graham.
Head-To-Head Record:
