Match Preview
Raith Rovers will be looking to end the first quarter of their season on a high this weekend, when they travel to Dingwall to take on Ross County.
The Staggies have a new managerial team in place following the recent departure of Don Cowie, with former Dundee boss Tony Docherty now leading the side assisted by ex-St Johnstone and Queen’s Park manager, Callum Davidson.
Despite a busy summer of transfer activity at the club, County have endured a difficult start to the season and sit ninth in the table, one point above bottom side Airdrie and three behind eighth placed Queen’s Park.
The Highland club have made moves to try and arrest that poor form in the last few days, bringing in three new additions, with midfielders Ryan Duncan and Miller Thompson arriving on loan from Aberdeen and Dundee United respectively, while former Rovers player Sean Mackie has arrived on loan from Falkirk.
However, Mackie was injured playing a bounce game against Hearts in midweek, so is likely to miss out on featuring against his former club.
This will be the sides first league meeting since the 2011/12 campaign, and Rovers will be hoping this season’s meetings go better than the quartet from that campaign, with Raith taking just two points from a possible 12.
The Kirkcaldy side are on a run of four straight defeats against the Dingwall side, with losses in the League and Challenge Cup and both legs of the Premiership Playoff final in May of last year.
Their last win was back in the summer of 2016, when Rovers defeated Ross County on penalties in a League Cup group stage match following a one all draw.
An own goal from Erik Cikos had gifted Raith the lead, and only a late equaliser from Brian Graham prevented Rovers taking all three points back down the road.
However, Kevin Cuthbert was the spot-kick hero, saving two County penalties as the visitors prevailed 4-3.
Saturday’s match referee will be Ross Hardie.
