Match Preview:

The first knock-out silverware of the Scottish season will be handed out at Easter Road this Sunday, as Raith Rovers go head-to-head with Rangers, in the final of the Ramsdens Cup.

It’ll be the first time the two clubs have met in a competitive fixture since a Premier League tie back in April 1997, while Rovers will be looking for their first victory over their League One opponents, since March 1970.

Raith go into the final in high spirits, after Callum Booth’s excellent free-kick, gave the Kirkcaldy side all-three-points from their visit to Recreation Park against Alloa Athletic last weekend. It lifted Raith to seventh in the table, and gave them a six-point-cushion over ninth placed Cowdenbeath.

Rangers on the other hand have made short work of League One this term, dropping just four points all season, while embarking on a run to the semi-final’s of the Scottish Cup, and of course, the final of the Ramsdens competition. In fact, Rangers last defeat was a 2-1 loss to Forfar Athletic in the League Cup back in August of last year.

For both sides, this will be their first appearance in the final of this competition, and both teams have been resolute during their respective journeys to the final. Rangers have yet to concede a goal in the tournament, while Raith have conceded only one, during the first round  tie against Stirling Albion.

This will be Raith Rovers fourth cup final appearance in their history, and for the second time, it’s Rangers who stand in their way of lifting a trophy. The first occasion was back in 1949, when goals from Torrance Gillick and Willie Paton, gave Rangers a 2-0 victory in the League Cup final.

Sunday’s match referee will be Kevin Clancy.
