Match Preview

Raith Rovers are back in Championship action after a fortnight’s break this Saturday, with Queen’s Park the visitors to Stark’s Park.

Callum Davidson’s Spiders have made a strong start to the season, sitting in fourth place in the table, four points clear of fifth placed Partick Thistle having played a game less.

Queen’s go into this one in excellent form, unbeaten in eight games in all competitions, with their last defeat coming to Aberdeen in the League Cup back in August. Their only league defeat came on the opening day of the season against Falkirk.

Last weekend saw them ease through to the quarter finals of the SPFL Trust Trophy, after a straightforward 4-1 win away at Annan Athletic.

Former Raith loanee Zak Rudden was amongst the goals, and the forward is in fine fettle this season, with five goals in 14 appearances for his new side, with only Anton Dowds and Oli Shaw scoring more league goals than him so far.

The two sides have yet to face each other this season, although last season’s four meetings featured two memorable five goal thrillers that both went Rovers way in the closing stages.

Trailing 2-1 at Stark’s Park in September last year, Lewis Vaughan restored parity in the 86th minute, before striking again four minutes into injury time to seal all three points.

Incredibly, lightning struck twice in the next game at Hampden in November, with Rovers, reduced to 10 men again 2-1 behind before a Jack Hamilton header made it 2-2 in the 89th minute. Rovers again took all three points in injury time however, after Ross Millen’s dinked penalty made it 3-2 in the 92nd minute.

Not all of last season’s games were quite so thrilling however, with the last ending 0-0, the first scoreless game between the sides since 1985.

Saturday’s match referee will be Callum Scott.

Head-to-Head Record:

Raith Rovers wins: 53

Queen’s Park wins: 36
