Match Preview:

Raith Rovers head to Palmerston Park on Saturday, to take on a Queen of the South side, who are unbeaten in their last four league and cup matches at home.

Queens will be looking to win two consecutive league matches for the first time this season, after goals from Michael Paton, Gavin Reilly and Derek Lyle, helped the team to a 3-1 win over Alloa last week. The win kept the Doonhamers in eighth position, seven points clear of second bottom Cowdenbeath. The compact nature of the Championship however, means that Jim McIntyre’s men are now just five points behind fourth place Raith, with a game in hand.

Queens recently added Motherwell forward, Bob McHugh to the squad, after loaning the striker from the Steelmen for the rest of the season, and the 22-year-old will look to play some part on Saturday.

For Rovers, last weeks 0-0 draw at Cappielow was their first clean sheet in the league since October, and the point means they’re now two clear of fifth placed Livingston. With Hamilton taking on Dundee this weekend, a win would see them close the gap to at least one of the teams above them.

This is a fixture that in recent history, almost always produces a winner, with no draws in the last ten league meetings, and just four matches have ended all-square in the last forty-one league games.

Raith have won both previous meetings this term, and that’s given them the edge in the recent head-to-head record. In the last ten league matches, Raith have won six, compared to Queens four.
