Match Preview:

It’s fourth versus fifth at Stark’s Park this Saturday, with both Raith Rovers and Queen of the South looking to open up a three point gap over the other, in the dash for a play-off spot.

James Fowler’s men moved level on points with Rovers last weekend, with a 1-0 win over Alloa Athletic thanks to a goal from Iain Russell, while Rovers could only draw a blank against Dumbarton, despite enjoying the bulk of possession.

Queens’ victory means that they’ve now won eight games from twelve against the five sides which are below them in the table this season, but encouragingly from a Rovers perspective, they’ve yet to register a win against any side currently above them. By comparison, Rovers have lost just two out of 14 games from the clubs which are below them at the moment.

If the Doonhamers are to change that, then they’ll have to overcome a poor sequence against Raith, which has seen them without a win since March 2015.

So far this term, Raith have taken four points from six from the two meetings. Kyle Benedictus scored the only goal in September at Stark’s Park, as Rovers clinched a tight fixture 1-0, while it was even closer at Palmerston Park in the return fixture, when a Robbie Thomson own-goal helped Rovers to a 1-1 draw.

Raith have a slightly superior record in this fixture in recent seasons, with five wins in ten outings compared to Queen four.

Saturday’s match referee will be Nick Walsh.
