Match Preview

After an incredible 6-0 win over Ross County at the weekend, Raith are on their travels on Saturday, as they head to Maryhill to take on second placed Partick Thistle.

The win lifted Rovers up to sixth in the table and are now just a point outside the promotion playoffs, while the Jags are now three points behind table toppers St Johnstone after their 2-1 defeat last weekend at a windswept Gayfield Park.

Saturday’s six goal demolition of the Staggies was Rovers biggest league win since a 7-0 win over St Mirren on the opening day of the 1992/93 season, while their latest clean sheet made it four games without conceding in their last five outings.

Thistle’s defeat made it two games without a win for Mark Wilson’s side, albeit both of those were away from home, and they’ll be hoping a return to Firhill will see them continue their fine home form which is the best in the division, with seven wins and two draws from nine games.

Perhaps encouragingly though, one of the teams to take something from Maryhill was Dougie Imrie’s Morton side back in August in a 1-1 draw.

Rovers last trip to the venue was also in August, and although they left empty handed, it was one of the most entertaining games of the season.

Tony Watt and Aidan Fitzpatrick had given the home side an early two goal lead, only for Dylan Easton and Ross Matthews to restore parity by the interval.

However, a second goal from Fitzpatrick 15 minutes from time saw the Jags take all three points.

It was a different story at Stark’s Park back in October though, when goals from Easton and Paul Hanlon saw Rovers ease to a 2-0 win.

Saturday’s match referee will be Ross Hardie.

Head-To-Head Record:

Partick Thistle wins: 71

Raith Rovers wins: 58

Draws: 43
