Match Preview

Raith Rovers return to Stark’s Park to take on Partick Thistle on Saturday afternoon, looking for the win which could help bridge the gap between themselves and the playoff places.

Last weekend’s Fife derby defeat, coupled with Dunfermline’s 4-0 win at Airdrie on Tuesday evening leaves Rovers sixth in the table, but only three points behind fourth placed Ayr United.

Rovers will have their work cut out to do so however, as they’re coming up against one of the most in-form sides in the country in Mark Wilson’s Thistle team.

Thistle go into this one on the back of a 2-1 win over Ayr United in midweek, a result which means they haven’t lost a league game since the opening day of the season, a sequence of 10 games which has seen them move level on points with St Johnstone at the top of the table and second on goal difference.

Raith do have a good home record against the Jags though, with the Maryhill side failing to win a league match in Kirkcaldy since 2011, when Kris Doolan and Paddy Boyle were the goal scorers in a 2-0 win for the away side.

This is the second meeting between the sides this season, with the first at Firhill back in August something of a thriller.

Goals from Tony Watt and Aidan Fitzpatrick had the home side two up after less than quarter of an hour, but goals from Dylan Easton and Ross Matthews had Rovers back on level terms before the interval.

However, Logan Chalmers goal 15 minutes from time ensured the points stayed in Glasgow.

Saturday’s match referee will be Grant Irvine.

Head-To-Head Record:

Raith Rovers wins: 57

Partick Thistle wins: 71

Draws: 43
