Match Preview
Raith Rovers will be looking to continue their fine start to their season this Saturday, when they head to Firhill to take on Partick Thistle.
Rovers convincing Fife derby victory on Friday means they go into this one in second place in the table, just two points off the top of the table St Johnstone.
The Jags also go into this match on the back of a fine result, after an excellent 3-1 away win against Ross County, a match which signalled the end of Don Cowie’s tenure as the Staggies boss, with John Robertson announced as the interim boss in midweek.
It was Mark Wilson’s side second 3-1 win over County already this season, with Partick Thistle also dispensing with County in the League Cup, and it’s been an impressive start to the campaign for the former Brechin boss, who replaced Brian Graham as the Thistle manager after the player-boss left the club in the summer to join Falkirk.
While the Firhill side lost heavily to St Johnstone in their opening league game, it’s their only loss in eight games, a run which sees them just outside the playoffs in the early Championship table, and a place in the quarter finals of the League Cup where they’ll face Celtic.
Rovers will be looking to preserve their fine recent record against Thistle, which has seen them lose just once in their last 12 meetings, and even that was the second leg of the playoff semi final in May 2024, which Raith still went on to win on penalties after the aggregate scores were level.
Both games at Firhill last season ended all square. The most recent, a 0-0 draw in March was something of a non-event, however, the game in November last year was notable for a sensation free-kick from Dylan Easton which was enough for Rovers to earn a point after trailing to an early Brian Graham goal.
Saturday’s match referee will be Peter Stuart
