Match Preview
Raith Rovers are back at Stark’s Park this weekend, with Morton the guests in what is Raith’s biggest game of the season so far.
Last weekend’s thrilling 3-1 win over Falkirk meant that Barry Robson’s side closed the gap to fourth placed Partick Thistle to just goal difference with two games remaining.
With Thistle playing John McGlynn’s side on Friday evening, if they were to drop any points, Rovers would be able to move into the playoff positions with a win on this weekend.
However, a look at the scores between the two sides this season suggests it’ll be easier said than done.
Rovers have taken just one point out of nine against the Greenock side this term, and are five games without a win over them, with their last victory over Dougie Imrie’s side way back in October 2023.
Rovers have beaten the other eight teams in the division this season, so just need Morton for the clean sweep, but to do that they’ll need to reverse the recent trend.
Morton won the first encounter at Cappielow by two goals to nil in October, and led by the same scoreline at Stark’s Park in November, only for Rovers to bring the scores level thanks to an own goal from Zak Delaney and a penalty from Dylan Easton.
However, Morton snatched all three points after a last minute strike from Michael Garrity.
It was another high scoring affair in March, with Rovers taking a two goal lead thanks to a brace from Jamie Gullan, but the game was turned on it’s head as Morton fought back to lead, only for an injury time goal from Aidan Connolly to earn the visitors a draw.
Saturday’s match referee will be Chris Graham.
Head-to-Head Record:
