Match Preview

After an excellent win over Falkirk last Saturday, Raith Rovers will be aiming to make it two league wins in a row for the first time since March, when they travel to Greenock to face Dougie Imrie’s Morton side.

The last time Rovers achieved that was when they defeated Dunfermline and Partick Thistle in quick succession last season, and if they do pull off a win this Saturday, they’ll very much be spoiling a special birthday party at Cappielow, with Morton celebrating their 150th anniversary.

Raith’s win over the Bairns lifted them to seventh in the table, one place and one point above Saturday’s opponents, who lost to Ayr United at Somerset Park last time out.

It’s been a mixed start for Imrie’s side so far, with one win and three draws from their seven outings to date, and with goals hard to come by so far this campaign, they’ve made moves to address that before the loan window closed, bringing in former Serbian under-21 forward Filip Stuparevic on loan from Motherwell.

The striker made his debut as a second half substitute last weekend, and will be pushing for a start after his new side again drew a blank in front of goal.

Neill Collins will be hoping he can sustain Rovers good recent record against Morton, with two win and two draws from the four meetings last term, although suffice to say the first two encounters were a better spectacle than the last two.

Callum Smith scored the winner in a five goal thriller in August, after Jack Hamilton and Lewis Vaughan had given Rovers an early two goal lead, while Aidan Connolly’s brace was enough to see Rovers win by a single goal again at Cappielow in October.

There’s been far excitement in the last two encounters though, with both ending goalless.

Saturday’s match referee will be Iain Snedden

Head-To-Head Record:

Morton Wins: 67

Raith Rovers Wins: 59

Draws: 39
