Match Preview
Raith Rovers welcome Inverness Caledonian Thistle to Stark’s Park this Saturday, for the final group game of the Premier Sports League Cup.
While Barry Robson’s men are now unable to make the knock out stages after losses to East Kilbride and St Johnstone, the Caley Jags would still win the group with a win here coupled with a St Johnstone loss to Elgin City.
They could also qualify as one of the three best group runners up, but only a win would suffice, and then it would be an anxious wait to see the results from the other groups.
Scott Kellacher’s League One side have impressed so far in Group F, beating Elgin 2-0 before losing narrowly to St Johnstone to a last minute goal in a game they should have got something out of, while in midweek they hammered East Kilbride 6-2 away home, scoring 5 goals in 14 second half minutes.
After replacing Duncan Ferguson, who has now experienced two relegations in his two managerial stints, Scott Kellacher helped revive Inverness last term, leading them away from the League One relegation zone after they were deducted 15 points following administration.
Under his guidance and new ownership, they start this season as one of the favourites for the title, despite starting the season with a five point deduction.
Former Raith right back Ross Millen has been brought in over the summer, as has David Wotherspoon and Joe Chalmers after they left Dunfermline, while speedy winger Liam Sole has been acquired from Livingston on loan.
Despite having a poor record in this fixture down the years, Rovers appeared to get rid of that hoodoo the last time the two sides shared a division in the 2023/24 season with four three wins out of four.
Their last meeting was a 1-0 win for Raith in April 2024, when a Lewis Vaughan goal was the deciding factor.
Saturday’s match referee will be Ross Hardie.
Head-To-Head Record:
Raith Rovers wins 10
