Match Preview:
Raith Rovers welcome Alan Stubbs’ Hibernian side to Stark’s Park on Saturday, with both teams having designs on moving up the table. Raith Rovers are now in seventh place, one point behind Dumbarton after last weekend’s 2-1 defeat, while Hibs are just three points behind Queen of the South, but could move above them into third on goal difference, if results go their way.
Hibs are in excellent form, with just one defeat since September, although that did occur in their most recent away fixture, losing by a single goal to a Falkirk team who are themselves on a fine run.
After a poor start to the season that saw them sitting in eighth place in the table at the end of August. Stubbs augmented his side with the signing of 25-year-old striker Dominique Malonga, from Italian side Cesena in September, and the Congolese international has proven to be an astute acquisition. His 10 goals have helped the Leith side rise into the play-off positions, and has filedl the void up front, left by the injury to fellow striker, Farid Al Alagui, who is expected to be back in January.
Both clubs will be hoping to go one better than the previous meeting in October, which finished 1-1 at Easter Road. Hibs started strongly, and were ahead in the first-half, after Scott Robertson toe-poked the ball home from close range. Raith rallied however, and deservedly equalised in the second period, through a fine finish from Christian Nade.
Saturday’s encounter will be Hibernian’s first visit to Stark’s Park for a competitive tie since a League Cup Third Round tie in 2001, and their first visit on league business, since April 1999.
Raith’s last league win over this weekend’s opponents, was a 1-0 home win in February 1996, but they’ve failed to win in their last ten league meetings, with Hibs winning six, and four finishing all-square.
Saturday’s match will be refereed by Don Robertson.
