Match Preview:

Raith Rovers head to Easter Road this Saturday, looking to extend their unbeaten run to five matches. They go into the match on the back of a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Alloa Athletic at the Indodrill Stadium, a result that kept them in sixth place in the Championship, six points off the promotion play-offs, with a game in hand.

While Rovers have found a fine piece of recent form, their opponents Hibs are the division’s form side, with just one defeat in their last 16 league matches. Their last loss was to Falkirk at the beginning of December, and with five wins and two draws in their last seven outings, it’s shaping up to be one of Raith’s toughest matches of the campaign so far.

Grant Murray’s side did eke-out a point the last they visited the Leith side however, when a Christian Nade goal ensured the match finished all-square, after Scott Robertson had put Hibs in front. Despite a good performance, and taking the lead, Raith lost the next encounter at Stark’s Park 3-1 just before Christmas. Barrie McKay gave Raith the lead, but an equaliser from Jason Cummings, and second-half goals from Liam Fontaine and Dominique Malonga, earned the win for the away side.

With Rangers in League Cup action this weekend, a win for Hibernian would lift them above Rangers into second in the Championship table, albeit Rangers will have played three games fewer.

Despite winning 3-2 at Easter Road in the Scottish Cup last season, Raith have a poor record against Hibs in their most recent league fixtures, with just three draws to show from their last ten meetings. Raith’s last league win over Hibs, was almost 19 years ago, a 1-0 win in the Premier League, back in February 1996.

Saturday’s match referee will be Euan Anderson.
