Match Preview:
Raith Rovers head to Tynecastle this Saturday, looking to become the first team to defeat Heart of Midlothian this season. Robbie Neilson’s side have made a blistering start to the campaign, dropping just four points from 11 matches, giving them a four point cushion over second placed Rangers.
It’ll be a particularly difficult task for Grant Murray’s side, when you examine just how formidable the Gorgie side have been at home this term. They’ve won all five home matches in the Championship this season, scoring 21 goals in the process, an average of over four goals per game. They also have the best home defensive record, with Neilson’s men conceding just four goals at Tynecastle so far.
Saturday’s match will be the first time the two clubs have played a league match at Tynecastle since a Premier League clash in February 1997, which the home side won 3-2.
Raith Rovers last win at Tynecastle was a 1-0 win in the Premier League back in 1993. The victory was their second at Tynecastle that season, and while they had a good record against the Gorgie club that term, Raith struggled in their first season in the top flight since 1970. Aside from those two victories over Hearts, Raith would win just four more league matches, finishing the season in the relegation places, along with Dundee and St. Johnstone.
Hearts have an excellent record in the most recent meetings between these clubs, with six wins and four draws from the last ten league encounters.
Saturday’s match referee will be Crawford Allan.
