Match Preview
After the disappointment of last weekend’s Fife Derby defeat, Raith Rovers will be looking to get back to winning ways and move up the table this Saturday, with Hamilton Accies the visitors to Stark’s Park.
The match will be new manager Neill Collins first in the home dugout, and he knows that a win will lift Rovers off the bottom of the table.
That won’t be easy however, against an Accies side which although newly promoted to the Championship via last season’s playoffs, have acclimatised well since returning to the second tier at the first attempt.
John Rankin’s men secured a win over Dunfermline last month and picked up a point in games against Morton and Airdrie, although a heavy defeat last time out against Livingston sees them sixth in the able on five points, two points ahead of Collins’ side.
This will be the second meeting between the teams this season, with the two playing out a one all draw in Kirkcaldy on the final day of the League Cup group section.
Needing a big win to give themselves a chance of progression, Raith fell behind to a Sean McGinty goal early in the second half, and although a Lee Kilday own goal restored parity, there was no further scoring meaning the match headed to a penalty shoot-out, which Rovers won 5-3, but the bonus point wasn’t enough to secure passage to the knockout stages.
Rovers have a good record in general against Hamilton, with six wins and two draws from the last 10 meetings.
Saturday’s match referee will be Lloyd Wilson
