Match Preview
Friday night football returns to Stark’s Park this week, as Raith Rovers welcome Dunfermline Athletic for the first Fife derby of the season.
Both teams have made similar starts to the campaign, with the near neighbours both sitting on four points from the first two Championship games, and if there is a winner on the evening, then they’ll take top spot in the league at least temporarily before Saturday’s games kick off.
Rovers go into this one on the back of a 1-0 win at Somerset Park against Ayr United, while Dunfermline were securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Airdrieonians, with the Todd brothers Jon and Andy the goal scorers.
The Pars may be able to give two players their debuts on Friday, after signing Robbie Fraser and Jefferson Caceres from Rangers and Sheffield United respectively.
Fraser impressed as a left sided full back on loan at Livingston last season, while Caceres was a big money signing for the Blades just six months ago, signing from the Peruvian top flight but failing to break into the United first team in the second half of last season.
The two teams locked horns four times last season and the home side came out on top on each occasion, with Rovers winning 2-0 the last time Dunfermline visited Stark’s Park in March, with Finlay Pollock and Paul Hanlon the goal scorers.
Looking back further, Raith have a good recent home record against Athletic, with Dunfermline’s last win in 90 minutes coming back in 2017, although they did win on penalties in a League Cup group stage match in July 2023.
Friday evening’s match referee will be David Dickinson.
Head-to-Head Record:
Raith Rovers wins: 50
Dunfermline Athletic wins: 54
Draws: 31
