Match Preview

It’s a Festive Fife derby at Stark’s Park this Saturday, as Raith Rovers welcome Dunfermline Athletic to Kirkcaldy.

Dougie Imrie’s side go into this one on the back of a 0-0 draw at Firhill against Partick Thistle, extending their unbeaten sequence to six games in all competitions, and moving them up a place in the table to fifth.

That move upwards was at the expense of Saturday’s opponents, with the Pars losing at home to Ayr United 3-2, although they almost staged a second half fightback after trailing 3-0 at the interval.

Those results meant that Ayr stretched the gap between themselves in the final playoff spot and fifth, but Raith are very much in striking distance, with just three points the difference.

This will be the third derby contest between these sides, and both previous encounters have retained the recent trend of the home side coming out on top.

Rovers made a blistering start back in August, with Lewis Stevenson opening the scoring in the second minute, before Lewis Vaughan sealed the three points with a second in the 78th minute.

However, the scoreline was reversed in October, with Barney Stewart and Chris Kane scoring the goals in a comfortable 2-0 win for Neil Lennon’s men.

That made it seven matches in a row where the home side have come out on top in this fixture, with the last time an away team scored a victory coming at East End Park in January 2024, with a Daniel O’Reilly brace seeing Rovers over the line by two goals to one.

Rovers do have a fine record in this game in general in recent years, winning eight and losing three of the last 11 fixtures, with the last draw coming in a League Cup Group Stage game in July 2023, with Dunfermline earning the bonus point on penalties.

Saturday’s match referee will be Dan McFarlane.

Head-To-Head Record:

Raith Rovers wins: 51

Dunfermline Athletic wins: 55

Draws: 31
