Match Preview:

Raith Rovers welcome Falkirk to Stark’s Park for the third time this season, in a game that has vital importance at both ends of the table.

Raith’s last two games have yielded a point in each, although in both cases, they were perhaps unfortunate not to have taken more. Last weekends 3-3 draw with in-form Dumbarton, was closely followed by a 1-1 draw with Alloa, in a game that the home side dictated for long spells. The point means that Grant Murray’s side remain in eighth place, level on points with Livingston, and four ahead of Cowdenbeath.

Falkirk go into Saturday’s match, buoyed by a last-minute 1-0 win over Queen of the South, a result that leaves them just three points behind Dundee, and two behind Hamilton, in the fight for the Championship title.

The three previous encounters this term have been evenly split, with Raith’s win coming in the Ramsdens Cup quarter-final back in September, while Falkirk were convincing 3-1 winners at the Falkirk Stadium in December. An injury-time Kris Faulds wonder-strike in September, prevented Rovers taking all three points in their previous league meeting at Stark’s Park.

With nine goals in four games, Rovers appear to have rediscovered their goalscoring form, although they face a tough task against a Falkirk side who have the joint meanest defence on their travels this season. Along with Hamilton, they’ve conceded just ten league goals in twelve away games.

This fixture is one where Raith have had the upper-hand in recent times, with four wins in the last ten meetings, compared to Falkirk’s two. Falkirk’s last victory at Stark’s Park was a 3-1 win, back in January 2011.

Saturday’s match referee will be Euan Anderson.
