Match Preview:

After the excitement of Sunday’s excellent League Cup victory over Aberdeen, Raith Rovers have another huge game this Friday evening, with the first Fife derby against Dunfermline at Stark’s Park.

Both teams go into this one searching for their first league win, but while Rovers were buoyed by their 2-1 win over the Dons, Peter Grant’s men were given something of a going over in their last outing, losing 5-0 to Rangers at Ibrox in their League Cup second round tie.

Despite being one of the favourites for the Championship title, Dunfermline have struggled to prove their credentials so far, with a decent point at Cappielow followed up by a heavy 3-0 home defeat to Partick Thistle a fortnight ago.

With both teams desperate to kick start their league campaign, it gives Friday’s match added importance, with Rovers keen to extend their decent recent record against Dunfermline.

The points were shared in the first meeting last term, after Manny Duku and Frankie Musonda had fired Rovers into a two goal lead in December, only for Fraser Murray and Declan McManus to score two goals in a minute, as the Pars fought back late in the game.

Dunfermline were then comfortable 4-1 winners in February, with McManus and Murray again on the scoresheet, along with Aron Comrie, with Brad Spencer getting Rovers consolation goal.

It was a role reversal at Stark’s Park in March though, when braces from Jamie Gullan, Lewis Vaughan and a goal from Regan Hendry giving Rovers their biggest win over their Fife rivals since 1983.

The two were then paired together in the quarter finals of the Premiership playoffs, and after a 0-0 draw in the first leg at East End Park, Rovers went through to the semi-final with a 2-0 win at home, with the goals coming from Lewis Vaughan and Gozie Ugwu.

Those results leave Rovers with a slightly better recent record against the Pars, with four wins and three defeats from the last 10 meetings.

Friday’s match referee will be Gavin Duncan
