 Preview:

Tuesday evening sees Raith Rovers travel to Dens Park, for a second round League Cup tie, against a Dundee side who have made a strong start to life in the Premiership. Three wins and a draw, sees Paul Hartley’s men sixth in the table, and they head into the midweek fixture on the back of their first league win of the season, a 1-0 victory away from home against St. Mirren.

Both teams reached the second round of this competition after scoring four goals against League One opposition. Raith needed extra-time to see off Forfar Athletic 4-2, while Dundee had a more straightforward task against Peterhead, winning 4-0.

Like Raith Rovers, Dundee have had a major overhaul of their playing squad over the summer, and the home side will likely feature a number of recent signings. Manager Paul Hartley has brought in a large amount of new faces, and while most have either top-level experience, or shown promise in the Championship, others have been brought in from further afield.

Kevin Thomson, James McPake and Paul McGowan were recruited over the close season, as were Championship stand-outs, Scott Bain, and Greg Stewart. Thomas Konrad and Luka Tankulic were both signed after impressing as trialists, and this fixture could also feature recent acquisitions such as Phil Roberts, Gary Harkins and Simon Ferry.

This is the second consecutive season that these two sides have been drawn together in a cup tie at Dens Park, as they faced each other in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup last term, a match Raith won 1-0 after a bizarre own-goal from Gary Irvine.

Raith’s recent cup record is impressive at the venue, as they’ve won on their last three visits here on cup duty.

However, Rovers overall record against Dundee is less impressive with just two wins from their last ten meetings, compared to Dundee’s five.

Tuesday night’s match referee, will be Kevin Clancy.
