Match Preview:

After last weekend’s 5-1 defeat to Livingston, Raith face a Dumbarton side who have their tails up, after an excellent 1-0 away win over Alloa Athletic, who days previously, had disposed of Rangers in the Challenge Cup.

The scorer of Dumbarton’s goal, on-loan St Johnstone forward Chris Kane, is being recalled in January, but he’s now the Son’s top goalscorer this season, despite a loan spell which has been truncated through injury.

Kane scored the last time the two sides met at the Bet Butler Stadium, an entertaining 3-3 draw at the end of February. After setting up Colin Nish for the first, he scored Dumbarton’s second, after Gordon Smith had brought the scores level. Goals from John Baird and Smith again, put Rovers 3-2 in front, but Scott Agnew’s sensational 20-yard volley, ensured a share of the points.

Raith kept all three however in this season’s earlier meeting, when goals from Paul Watson, Ryan Conroy and Christian Nadé, eased Raith into a three goal lead, before Agnew’s late effort reduced the deficit in a 3-1 win for the home side.

High scoring encounters are now very much the norm between these sides, with an incredible 41 goals in the last nine meetings, with Raith only just scoring the majority of them, with 22 to Dumbarton’s 19.

Rovers also the edge in the recent head-to-head record, with five wins to Dumbarton’s three in the last ten occasions the clubs have met.

Historically, Raith have a good record on the 13th of December, losing just one of their last seven games on that date. A win for Raith could see them slip back into fifth place, but a victory for Ian Murray’s men, would see them leapfrog Rovers into sixth.

Saturday’s match referee will be Bobby Madden.
