 Match Preview:

It’s Raith Rovers final home match of the Championship campaign this weekend, and Cowdenbeath are the visitors, in what will be Raith’s fifth, and final Fife derby of the season.

After Falkirk continued their late title charge with a 2-1 win over the Rovers last weekend, Raith still require a point to be mathematically safe from the play-off spot. Cowdenbeath however, the team that currently reside in that unwanted ninth position, journey to Stark’s Park on the back of an excellent 4-0 win against Livingston, a result that keeps them in with a chance of staying up, without the need of the play-off’s.

There may only of been 1 goal the last time the 2 sides met at the start of February, but such a low scoring game tends to be the exception rather than the norm when these sides come together. In the previous 7 meetings over the last 2 seasons, the clubs have shared 28 goals between them, with this season seeing Raith prevail 4-3 back in August, while a late Kane Hemmings goal, secured a 3-3 draw in December.

With Cowdenbeath looking for goals as well as points, they’ll be hoping to emulate their highest ever victory over Raith, which came 30 years ago, in a 5-1 win at Central Park, in August 1984. Rovers biggest winning margin in this fixture came in a 6-0 League Cup tie, back in September 1948.

The teams can barely be separated over the last 10 league meetings, with 4 draws and 3 wins apiece during that time. However, Cowdenbeath are unbeaten in their last 4 league visits to Stark’s Park, with Raith’s last home win over their local rivals coming in March 2011.

Saturday’s match referee will be Brian Colvin
