Match Preview

Raith Rovers will begin their 2025 under new stewardship this Saturday, when they head to Somerset Park to face Ayr United.

With Barry Robson appointed as the new Rovers boss on Sunday evening, he’ll be in the dugout for the first time this weekend, as Rovers look to make it four league wins in a row.

Scott Brown’s men are in decent form themselves though, with just one defeat in seven since a shock loss to Lowland League side East Kilbride in the SPFL Trust Trophy in November.

Since then, only Partick Thistle have come out on top against Scott Brown’s side, and with four wins and a draw from their other five league games in that time, sit third in the table, a point behind Livingston and seven behind leaders Falkirk.

Ayr have an excellent record at home this season, with only Falkirk have picked up more points, and Rovers defence will be severely tested, with Brown’s side the top scorers at home in the Championship with 22 goals in their 10 matches at Somerset Park.

This will be the fourth time the two sides have met this season, and the third different boss Rovers have had in charge across the four matches.

John Potter and Colin Cameron were in the hot seats as Ayr ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in August, and coincidentally Neil Collins also took charge of his first game at the same venue in September, and despite racing into a two goal lead in just 15 minutes thanks to Dylan Easton and Callum Smith, a second half turnaround saw Ayr ease through by the odd goal in five.

It was a different story the last time the two sides met at Stark’s Park in November though, when a brace from Lewis Jamieson helped Rovers to a 2-0 win in what was their best performance of the season to date.

Saturday’s match referee will be Colin Steven.

Head-To-Head Record:

Ayr United wins: 58

Raith Rovers wins: 62

Draws: 52
