After an impressive 2-0 win over Queen’s Park on Tuesday evening, Raith Rovers head to Gayfield this weekend, still in with a shout of finishing in the promotion playoff spots.
That possibility seemed far fetched at the very least just a few weeks ago, indeed, after going a goal down to Airdrie on the 21st of March Rovers were joint bottom in the live league table.
However, after turning that match around to win 3-1, Rovers have now made it four league wins in five games, and if they can extend that to five in six this Saturday, they’ll be just two points behind the Red Lichties with six points to play for.
After looking like they had a top four spot sewn up just a month or so ago, David Gold and Colin Hamilton’s side have now lost three games in a row, and go into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Ayr United at Somerset Park last weekend.
Despite the recent downturn in fortunes though, Arbroath have one of the best home records in the division, with only Partick Thistle and St Johnstone picking up more points at their home ground, while only Dunfermline and St Johnstone have left Gayfield with three points this season.
Rovers won the first meeting between the two in September, with second half goals from Paul Hanlon, Richard Chin and Jack Hamilton easing Raith to victory.
The most recent meeting at Gayfield was goalless in November, but it was a high scoring affair in January, with Arbroath winning 3-2 at Stark’s Park.
Gavin Reilly and Dapo Mebude had given Arbroath a two goal advantage, only for Scott Brown and Josh Mullin to restore parity.
However, with Rovers looking the likelier side to score a winner, Scott Robinson raced clear to win the game for the visitors.
Saturday’s match referee will be Nick Walsh.
Head-To-Head Record:
Arbroath wins: 36
Raith Rovers wins: 51
Draws: 24
