Match Preview
Second placed Raith Rovers welcome third placed Arbroath to Stark’s Park this weekend, with both sides looking to continue their fine start to the season.
As is so often the case when a team has just won League One, the Red Lichties have started life in the second tier in fine fettle, losing just two of their opening seven league fixtures, leaving them level on points with Raith, but behind them on goal difference.
Like Rovers, David Gold and Colin Hamilton’s side go into this one without a win in their last two league games, losing 5-0 to Dunfermline before drawing with 1-1 with Morton last time out.
Amongst a host of new faces brought to Gayfield over the summer was former Rovers midfielder Ross Callachan, although he may miss a return to Stark’s Park due to injury.
In terms of who Rovers will need to watch out for however, that will probably be forward Nikolay Todorov, with the physical Bulgarian the team’s top scorer with four goals.
The 29-year-old also has a reasonable track record against Rovers, with four career goals against them to date, a record which is only bettered by the eight he’s managed to accumulate against Morton.
Rovers have a decent record of late against their Angus opponents, losing just one of the last nine meetings, while their most recent fixture in May 2024 saw Rovers register their biggest win against Arbroath since 1978, with braces from Callum Smith and Lewis Vaughan as well as a goal from Jack Hamilton sealing a resounding 5-0 win in Kirkcaldy.
Saturday’s match referee will be Grant Irvine.
Head-To-Head Record:
Raith Rovers wins: 50
Arbroath wins: 35
Draws: 23
