Match Preview:

It’s seventh versus eighth at Recreation Park on Saturday, as Alloa take on Raith Rovers, with both sides looking to keep their distance from Cowdenbeath, who currently reside in the relegation play-off spot.

When the two sides last met at this venue in November, both teams were well placed in the top-four, but due to both clubs poor run of form, Saturday’s meeting is vital in terms of staying in the Championship, rather than attempting to gain promotion from it.

Alloa arrested their own slide last Saturday with a 3-0 home win over Falkirk, but lost to Livingston in midweek. After picking up four points from six against Morton and Dundee, Raith looked to have turned a corner, but defeats to Livingston and Hamilton have dragged them back to within four points of Cowdenbeath.

If Raith are to take all three points on Saturday, then they’ll need to reverse a trend which often sees them struggle at Alloa’s home ground. Alloa are unbeaten in seven home matches against Raith, whose last win there was a 3-2 victory in April 2007.

Overall, Raith have a slight edge over the Wasps in the last ten encounters, with four wins to Alloa’s three.

Saturday’s match referee will be Kevin Graham.
