Match Preview

Raith Rovers will be looking to get back to winning ways this Saturday, when they take on an Alloa Athletic side, who are also looking for a reversal in form.

Alloa’s last league win was a 2-1 triumph over Hibernian back in August, and while they’ve received plaudits for their performances since, especially in the games against Rangers and Hearts, points have been harder to come by.

That sequence has seen the Wasps slip to the bottom of the Championship, but the recent history of this fixture would suggest that the game will almost certainly be close. While Raith have won the last two fixtures by a single goal, Alloa came out on top by the same 1-0 scoreline last season, while the two clubs also drew 1-1 at Stark’s Park in February.

The last ten league meetings sees Raith with the better record, with five wins to Alloa’s two. Alloa haven’t won in any of their last eight visits to Stark’s Park, and the last time they took three points from a trip to Kirkcaldy, was a 1-0 victory in the Second Division, back in April 2006.

Raith Rovers will need to pay particular attention this Saturday to the Alloa strike tandem of Greig Spence and Liam Buchanan, who between them, have scored 13 goals in all competitions this season.

Depending on results elsewhere, a win for Raith could take them back into the play-off positions, while Barry Smith’s men will be hoping to leapfrog both Cowdenbeath and Livingston at the foot of the table.

Saturday’s match referee will be Euan Anderson
