Match Preview:
Raith Rovers and Alloa Athletic will see out 2015 with their final match of the year at Stark’s Park this Saturday, with Rovers looking to cement their current position of fourth in the Championship.
Last Friday evening’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Morton saw Ray McKinnon’s team leapfrog Morton into the play-off positions, and they could extend their two-point advantage over fifth place Morton with a win or draw this Saturday, with the Greenock outfit not in action again until the new-year.
The visitors on the other hand, under the tutelage of new boss, Jack Ross, will be looking to close the gap on ninth placed Livingston, after the former Dumbarton assistant lost his first match to St. Mirren last weekend. The 2-0 reverse left the Clackmannanshire side four points behind Livingston, having played a game more.
While Alloa are on a poor run of form, Raith should be wary of the fact that Athletic have been far more effective away from home this season, picking up seven points on their travels, compared to just one at the Indodrill Stadium.
It was a close run thing when the two clubs last met in October, when a late Grant Anderson effort was all that separated them. However, it was slightly more straightforward during the fixture at Stark’s Park in August, when an incredible second-half strike from James Craigen was followed up by goals from Craig Wighton and Mark Stewart in a 3-0 win.
Those scores continued Rovers fine record in this fixture, with just one league defeat against the Wasps in 14 attempts. Alloa’s last win against Rovers was a 1-0 win back in November 2013, and their last win of any kind at Stark’s Park was another 1-0 result back in April 2006.
The most recent head-to-head record stands at six wins and three draws for Rovers from the last ten outings.
Saturday’s match referee will be Greg Aitken.
