Match Preview

After a hard fought 2-1 win at Cappielow against Morton on Tuesday evening, Raith Rovers are back at Stark’s Park this Saturday, as they host Airdrieonians.

Rhys McCabe’s Diamonds made a fine start to the season, with nine wins across their first 13 league and cup fixtures, but that good form has stuttered to a halt in recent weeks, with just one point taken from their last four matches.

Their most recent defeat came on Tuesday evening, when they went down by two goals to nil at home to league leaders Dundee United.

Despite that downturn in fortunes, Airdrie are still sitting fifth in the Championship table, albeit almost all the teams below them are not only within touching distance, but have played two games fewer.

Rovers on the other hand are in fine fettle, with Aidan Connolly’s two headed goals versus Dougie Imrie’s side ensuring all three points were brought back to Kirkcaldy.

That made it eight wins for Rovers in their last 10 fixtures, with their only loss in that sequence coming against Saturday’s opponents in their prior meeting this season.

Calum Gallagher’s solitary goal was all that separated the teams on the day, in a closely fought encounter where Raith were unable to break down an obdurate Airdrie side.

That loss brought to an end an unbeaten run against Airdrie which had lasted 17 games across 12 years, with the last defeat coming way back in 2011.

Saturday’s match referee will be Chris Graham.
