Match Preview

After a hard fought 2-0 win over Hamilton Accies on Saturday, Raith Rovers face a quick turnaround, as they head to Lanarkshire to face Airdrieonians.

Goals from Dylan Easton and Finlay Pollock sealed a 2-0 win for Barry Robson’s men at the weekend, with the win taking them to within four points of the playoffs, having played two games fewer than fourth placed Partick Thistle.

Airdrie go into this one in 10th place in the table and 10 points behind ninth placed Hamilton, however, a decent set of results in recent weeks has renewed hope that Rhys McCabe’s men can pull off an unlikely escape from relegation.

After defeating Raith on the opening day, they went 19 league games without a win, before thumping Dunfermline 3-0 last month. With long term injuries now starting to clear up and McCabe now able to call upon the majority of his squad, the Diamonds have embarked on a four match unbeaten run, with a win over Queen’s Park followed up by draws with Morton and most recently Partick Thistle.

This will be the third meeting between the two sides, with both teams picking up a narrow win apiece.

Dylan MacDonald’s goal with 15 minutes remaining was enough to seal a 1-0 win the last time the two sides met at the Albert Bartlett Stadium in August, and the scoreline was reversed at Stark’s Park in October, with Scott Brown’s fine strike the only goal of the game.

That was Raith’s first win in seven attempts against Airdrie, which had been preceded by Rovers going 17 games without loss against the same opponents.

Tuesday evening’s match referee will be Peter Stuart.

Head-to-Head Record:

Airdrie wins: 15

Raith Rovers wins: 20

Draws: 12
