A hundred years ago, nearly one hundred volunteers from Fife with McCrae’s Battalion stepped into the maelstrom that was 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Players from Raith Rovers, Dunfermline Athletic and East Fife were among that number. They are not forgotten.

On 1st  July 2016 many Fifers will be at the McCrae’s Battalion Trust cairn at Contalmaison. Among them will be two Fife soldiers from the Army Personnel Recovery Centre. Sadly the need to support recovering soldiers continues.

Please help Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust to take those two soldiers, free of charge, to Contalmaison by bidding for this superb Raith Rovers (team-signed) strip which was produced to honour the seven Raith Rovers players , and many supporters, who proudly enlisted with Sir George McCrae’s Scottish Sporting Battalion. 16th Royal Scots.

The Trustees are very grateful to Davie Barclay of A.K. Moyes, Joiners and Building Contractors, Halbeath Road, Dunfermline for making this possible.
