Match Report

Forthbank Astro, 11th October 2016

Last night’s Development League East game kicked off with the illuminated Wallace Monument in the background, but this was outshone by the start that the under 20’s made.

With barely a minute on the clock Joel Coustrain burst through the defence on a fifteen yard run and went one on one with the keeper who just managed to clear the ball.

Two minutes later Joel burst through again but was denied when the chasing Albion defenders made a sandwich filling of him, but five minutes later Joel had perfected the trick and this time beating the defence and the keeper, calmly slotting the ball under the keeper from 10 yards. Goal Coustrain 0-1

After the goal Stirling settled and were handling the pace of the Rovers midfield breaking through with two shots over the bar in as many minutes.

Albion had threat in height from three or four players and this was highlighted when their number 9 glanced a header just wide after 9 minutes.

Seven minutes later their persistence paid off when from an identical position the tall number 11 hit a beautiful header in at the back post. 1-1

Stirling had the better of the possession in the remainder of the half but only threatened on a few of occasions with long range efforts going wide and a daisy cutter from 30 yards which Aaron Lennox scooped up with ease.

It wasn’t all one way traffic as Rovers came close with a couple of wide shots, however our right back for the night hit a lovely dipping shot just over, a good 30 yards out on the right of the Albion half.

Half time 1-1

The second half started the same as the first with the Rovers coming out of the traps and pushing up the park, this had an instant result as Joel Coustrain replicated his first half run and slotted under the diving keeper from 12 yards. 1-2

Rovers settled into the half with their tails up but Albion had a good spell of pressure in the middle of the half forcing five or six corners, one of which saw a good old fashioned stramash finally cleared after the ball had submitted.

Albion finally had a clear chance on 73 minutes when the ref judged that their player had been brought down in the box, the big Stirling number 11 sent Lennox the wrong way from the spot and the game was level. 2-2

Despite a late push by the Rovers for a winner the game came to a damp finish as constant drizzle engulfed the pitch. The guys did well against a side with a couple of first team players and with one or two better finishes could have left with three points.

Full time. Stirling Albion 2-2 Raith Rovers
