Match Report

Starks Park8th November 2016

With near freezing temperatures, the U20’s warmed up the few fans who turned up with great display, Scott Robertson played for the first half and seems to be on the mend from his lengthy injury, he was joined by Lennox, Vaughan and newbie Crawford as senior players in the side.

As expected, due to the experience on show, the Rovers dominated the first quarter notably with Osei coming close twice from distance and Coustrain whipping in decent crosses which just eluded the prowling Vaughan and Osei.

It was almost twenty minutes before Alloa threatened but the retreating midfield bolstered defence to clear the ball up field.

Minutes later Rovers heaped on the pressure with Yaw providing a cross which Thorsen put just wide at the back post, next the young Dane returned the compliment placing the ball at the feet of Osei who was denied by a brave dive by the Alloa keeper.

Rovers kept pressing and Vaughan struck the bar with a blistering 18 yarder the ball rebounding to Osei who hit the ball wide, he wasn’t to be denied and on 31 minutes the flood gates opened, Osei broke free of his marker from half way, rounded the keeper and hit the net from inside the box 1-0

The dust had barely settled when three minutes later Osei played on Coustrain who calmly stroked the ball into the back of the net from 15 yards 2-0

The rest of the half played out with both sides having equal possession but no real chances were created, half time 2-0

Scott Robertson made way for James Berry at half time but another change was enforced 3 minutes later as the left back, Trialist N took a bad knock and was replaced by Trialist F, this required a rejig with Joel Coustrain falling back to LB for the rest of the game.

With 55 minutes played, Osei’s header at the back post fell to Vaughan who had the easiest of tasks to rattle the ball home 3-0

Lewis Vaughan, ever the predator finished with aplomb when the ball fell to him and he rattled the ball into the net from the corner of the six-yard box 4-0

Alloa got a grip of the game and had a fair bit of possession but still couldn’t get near Lennox, Robbie Crawford had a decent opportunity on the hour, shooting just over from outside the area.

Despite Joel playing as an impromptu left back he was itching to get up the park for all of the second half and this paid dividend when he lobbed a peach to Osei who rifled the ball into the net from the middle of the box 5-0

It took until the 73rd minute for Alloa to properly threaten and it was their number 6 who fired the ball under the diving Lennox for their only goal 5-1

Rovers completed the scoring for the night when Trialist E who had replaced Thorsen, played the ball along the by-line to Osei and with the neatest of touches diverted the ball over the keeper at the near post 6-1

Overall a decent display from the lads who are the league’s top scorers and sit mid table of the league of seven, two points behind leaders Berwick.
